A rare case of primary gastrointestinal stromal tumour of the stomach presenting as perforation peritonitis

Presentation of gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs) as perforation peritonitis is a rare entity with only few cases reported in literature. Here we present case 50-year-old male acute abdomen and signs peritonitis. Abdominal radiography revealed dilated small bowel loops the absence any free intraperitoneal air. Exploratory laparotomy growth arising from stomach wall at distal part body along greater curvature. Wide excision lesion was done rent closure. Histopathological examination further confirmed diagnosis GIST stomach. Post operatively patient received Imatinib therapy doing well on follow up. Although rare, GISTs should be considered differential perforated GI lesions.
